Project notes (updated)
So, I actually screwed up the original release of this – the filtered x264 conversions of episodes 7 and 8 were duplicates of 5 and 6. At first I thought I’d revisit that, but Orphan wound up making their own conversion of the duplicated episodes when they subtitled the series. As such, if you want the x264 conversions, I’d advise you to obtain their subtitled version. Its softsubbed, so you can extract the video out quite easily. Meanwhile, I still think its important to have the raw DVD conversions out there for future encoders and their future encoding methods, whatever those might be.
Plus I’m kinda lazy and I have a lot of other laserdiscs to capture, okay? Geez.
Project notes (original)
Another one of those works that has never been released on DVD, yay! This 1997 Studio Deen series was, unfortunately, a bomb when it originally aired in Japan, so of course Bandai thought it would be a brilliant idea to sell it in North America under their short-lived and ill-fated “Animevillage” subsidiary. Of course, they also thought it was brilliant to do a VHS-only release when DVD was on the rise. No marketing geniuses there, I guess.
The good news is that somebody captured those old VHS tapes, and while they look like ass it means that scripts exist. Its just that somebody will have to sit down and transcribe them, unless somebody can manage to OCR them. It won't be me, that's for sure.
Enclosed are filtered x264 conversions, as well as untouched DVD conversions. Also, just for fun, I scanned the laserdisc jackets and inlays, so I've included those as well.
