Movie summary (contains spoilers): In a change from previous Ultraman movies, this takes place in our own universe, in which Ultraman is just a popular kids' TV show. A young boy (and Ultraman addict) named Tsutomu, who is failing in school from his addiction. One day, while watching an Ultraman Gaia episode, he is teleported into hyperspace where he sees a red ball, a girl and behind it mass destruction. Later, he finds a mysterious glowing ball (the same ball in the dream) that tells him it can make any wish come true. The one thing Tsutomu wants more than anything else is to meet Gamu, Ultraman Gaia's human counterpart. After his wish is granted, Gamu actually came, but the bully took it and the second wish; for a monster to fight Gamu. After a Gamu transforms into Ultraman Gaia, he is losing power quickly. Unfortunately, the bully finds the wishing ball and wishes for a giant monster to appear and starts destroying their suburban Tokyo neighborhood. Gamu and the XIG team must then find a way to open a gateway between the two universes to stop the monster and save the world we live in. Soon, Gaia is in a deadly battle against the monster. The monster then splits into two more monsters that are equally as strong as the original, one who's specialty is in water and the other who's specialty is sky. Tsutomu, then knowing that Gaia was in trouble, tries to wish for help only to be sent flying into the air by one of the monster's stray beams. Just as all seems lost he is rescued by Ultraman Tiga and Ultraman Dyna, who have come via "The Light" into the battle to help Gaia.
