Raws: WOWmd’s Amazon rip
Based on: /mjg/ repo subs, episode 1 by 8pin, further polished by us

Mahjong translation check: Muzussawa
It’s not in my habit to drop things like that, but this show proved to literal Kryptonite for me; I find the mere thought of working on it headache-inducing. I simply cannot work on something that glorifies nothing but vices and quagmire. Still, if you, yes you, think you can TLC it and un-retard the 4chan subs in my stead, go ahead and get in touch with us, because I wouldn’t mind finishing the show if I only have to do the painless parts, which is everything but the TLC, and muzu is into depravity in general. Personally, though, I know that I’m doing society a favor by not bringing this atrocity to light.
The history so far:
In my latest desperate attempt at soliciting Muzu’s nudes, I let myself be led down a garden path and into another midjong show, because “How bad can it be,” right…? I had no idea it can. For the first time in my subbing career, I was unironically questioning what I’m doing with my life, and I’m a fansubber, which is a useless vocation in its own right! I was hoping that making more frequent breaks for other shows would make it any more bearable, but alas, my every attempt to return to this show proved more painful than the previous one, until we got to this point where the mere thought of Super Zugan makes me wince. After 8 episodes, I realized that I’d rather do a resub of all of Sailor Moon than 21 episodes of Super Zugan. Hell, I’d rather do the Fighting Beauty Wulong that Collectr had been trying to palm off to me, because if I do any more episodes of Super Zugan, I’ll become a domestic terrorist. I even finished Haikara-san, but not this.
However, if you wanted to watch it for mahjong, I’m not sorry, because you are mentally damaged as it is, therefore the 4chan memesubs would be just what the doctor ordered for you.
For this release, I translation-checked the non-mahjong parts, removed all 4chan slurs and memes and added typesetting. Muzussawa did the same for the mahjong parts, although he skipped the “what to cut” eyecatches between episodes because nobody cares. Overall, it was actually a pretty solid translation, if not for the slurs, which, to be fair, probably only made the mahjong part actually any entertaining.
Episodes:
TL notes, mostly the stuff I moved here from the dumb usual inline notes of the previous iteration of these subs:
• “Tsukan” is a mahjong slang for “out of luck,” then “Zugan” is the ultimate form of that, so the show’s title translates to something like “Shit Out of Luck.”
• Toyotomi Hideyuki’s name might be referencing Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
• Episode 7:
It’s a reference to another overhyped Mahjong slop of the time, that me and Muzu had done for Orphan—Naki no Ryuu. There, the MC used his catchphrase “Your back is sooty,” as his way of saying "Omae wa mou shindeiru."
is referencing the catchphrase of a Japanese folk hero, Kin-san (I translated an anime inspired by his life for Inka-subs) and Honda Shigetsugu’s letter to his wife.
• Episode 8: are referencing poems by Murou Saisei and Sei Shonagon.
• is ‘In classical Japanese, parodying the gunka “Shussei Heishi wo Okuru Uta”’ according to /mjg/. I don’t give two fucks about this show, so don’t expect me to fact-check any of that.
