Thanks to the people involved in this release, including the sources.
At long last this release is finally out!
First, I struggled to decide what to aim for with this release, keeping the same filesize as the WEB batch or going for a much higher quality? After failing to substencially improve on the WEB release due to it already using really amazing encoding settings overall and an excellent source, and due to the BD for this show not being a substential improvement, I ended up choosing the later. Then the struggle to make decent enough filtering scripts began and my ambition grew week by week, which made the encoding process a nightmare in the end. Though I finally found the best compromise I could offer, which meant zoning the shit out of the show, especially to improve the overly grainy scenes and the very dark ones, which remains a struggle for AV1 to this day. Even then, I won't argue this is a perfect release. For starters, it's certainly not transparent 100% of the time, far from it, and when I rewatched the show in its entirety after doing the final encodes I noticed quite a few masks errors, normally I have fixed them all. By hand. Yes. It was a pain. Kill me. I've been conservative with the filtering for this one cause of its bad image quality and line-art in difficult scenes. I tried to reduce the banding as much as possible without completely destroying everything else, but you will still notice some.
There's lots of other insight of this release in the [#releases-progress](https://discord.com/channels/992019264959676448/1067540969387474984) channel of the discord server. And the actual timeline.
Now a few mostly (un)funny stats:
- Started the project the 24th of January. 4 months ago.
- Re-did my filtering scripts from scratch 4 times.
- Tuned my encoding parameters a dozen of times.
- Zoned a particular episode up to [51 actual zones](https://rentry.co/erub2/raw). Took me 2 hours to zone just this one ep.
- Basically rewatched the show entirely two times without the sound.
- ~~Made it throught my first year of engineering school yesterday.~~ Wait, irrelevant.
Visit this page again in a few hours / days and I'll have a comparison link posted with my previous release. Or simpler, join our discord server.
Enjoy this release!
