This batch contains Blu-ray rips of the classic _**Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu**_ series, with lossless audio, and Central Anime's subtitles added. It is just a remux of the following torrent: https://nyaa.si/view/913654
I decided to sort the side stories (movies included) by chronological order.
Under normal circumstances, except perhaps for nostalgia's sake, one would be satisfied with the newer Blu-ray sets, but unfortunately these are affected by the infamous redraws. For this reason, you might be interested in the "Legend of the Galactic Heroes Laserdisc Archival & Preservation Project". Check out their Discord server: https://discord.gg/cGffQbvwXg

You added CA subs? In 2022? Seriously?
Yeah, get MTBB or mux MTBB (HiDive) subs with Yurasyk, CA subs being wholly inaccurate is well-documented at this point. No point in perpetuating this garbage.
Actually they aren't wholly inaccurate. And out of tens of thousands of lines of text only a very small percentage were bad. Some from misheard lines, others from a typo. I've watch the professional ones and Central Anime's are very accurate.

(As always, when I bash CA's subtitles, I'm referring to episodes 1-26 only. I don't know how accurate the translation after 26 is.)

Funny, because I just watch the pro bluray version and we had very few mistakes. So, I'll let that be the judge instead of haters who always like to shit post other groups.
I understand more than I speak. Like I said - I've watched the professional release and find only minor differences and already know where the errors are from way back when we completed the series. Having a couple of haters constantly trying to put down works others have done is quite tiresome. Have you ever thought of just not saying anything and letting others be the judge? And you know nothing of my background or the people I work with - so why not just stop trying to make yourself feel important and leave other people alone?
>Have you ever thought of just not saying anything and letting others be the judge?
well for one thing most people are too lazy to actually download multiple releases and compare. and most of them don't have the skills to even if they wanted to. so it's actually useful for people to comment on this.
>And you know nothing of my background or the people I work with - so why not just stop trying to make yourself feel important and leave other people alone?
why does someone need to? the people downloading don't know. they only care if the subs are good or not. btw, considering how almost without fail you have to comment whenever someone mentions your group/subs, i'm pretty sure you're the one trying to make yourself feel important here.
As someone who’s got no stake in this, I did a quick search amongst LotGH online communities, and opinions seem to be generally divided regarding which is the best set of subs, with each having its advantages and disadvantages.
Those criticizing CA in this thread appear to just have some sort of beef against them, and the opinions I saw being expressed by the fandom do give credence to the hypothesis that people here are simply acting in bad faith.
Then again, I wouldn’t know since I don’t speak Japanese. But that’s what it looks like from the outside. The sheer fact that Central Anime was for so long the only viable way to watch LotGH subbed, which made them responsible for turning it into a cult show outside of Japan, despite not even being officially released there until very recently, should at least deserve them some respect.
@strockbel
So you checked Reddit (always trust Reddit when it comes to translation and accuracy, they are definitely not biased), completely ignored that Heibi is a CA member (if not the man himself!), and then completely ignored MTBB's and herkz's clear and trusted track record among the community, as well as the fact that the latter is a semi-industry professional.
That's not even bothering to mention the fact that neither of the latter two figures worked on the Hi-DIVE subs themselves!
But of course, they are just "acting in bad faith" and "have some sort of beef against them." You should try your hand at academics. Your proficiency to research and logic is very apparent.
Sorry, gotta call it like I see it. I have no horse in this race and am simply framing it like what an outsider (which is most people) will take from all of this. I have no idea of who any of these individuals are, nor do I care. So thanks for starting a flame fest and not addressing the actual facts about the quality so that people who might be looking for them might learn something… like, you know, *was indeed stated above*.
You’re not doing your side any favors by not going straight to the point and not presenting objective data and sound arguments. You do not even know where I looked for information and instead make groundless assumptions (which turn out to be wrong anyway); you imply that my supposed source is biased without even explaining why it is that you find it so. Logic, you say? Well, yours is circular. So many questions begged Aristotle must be rolling in his grave by now. Try an actual Logic and Critical Thinking 101 course first.
@guern056
I never claimed to be reliable when it came to quality. But sure, put words in my mouth, with the amount of brain cells present in the regular nyaa.si thread that might just pass as a genuine argument.
@strockbel
Please be more hypocritical. Your entire first statement is a whole bag of nothing. I'm not responding to your lack of research, evidence, and arguments with something actually substancial.Not once in your entire statement did you quote any lines from the show, quote any of your supposed "discussions." I'm simply calling you stupid for ignoring the blatant facts one can see by clicking the names on this thread, which you have shown to not be able to do! You reached conclusions on known members of the community without bothering to look into why their names are fucking green on this website. Upstanding job, smartass.
I’m not the one who has to present quotes, research, evidence, or arguments, as I’m not the one making assertions regarding the quality of CA’s subs. You are, so you’re the one who has to back it up. I simply noted that nothing of value was pointed out in this thread, and a quick Google search indeed reveals a very different story, so the burden’s on you to prove your point.
What you infer as being my conclusions, the falseness of which you believe to be ascertainable by clicking the names, is exactly what you’re implying about Heibi despite the fact that clicking his (equally greened) name also reveals several uploads.
So anything you’ve thrown at me thus far takes yourself down as well. That’s not a problem for me because, again, I’m not the one making claims in need of being backed up: you are; which, mind you, *is* in itself an argument in favor of what I said in the beginning.
So where’s your logic? You never actually studied the subject, did you? Stop embarrassing yourself with your low quality rhetoric and lack of sound reasoning.
> What you infer as being my conclusions, the falseness of which you believe to be ascertainable by clicking the names, is exactly what you’re implying about Heibi despite the fact that clicking his (equally greened) name also reveals several uploads.
> completely ignored that Heibi is a CA member (if not the man himself!)
Twice in the same thread. And we're the ones arguing in bad faith.
You just committed two fallacies. One, poisoning the well: since he has an interest in the matter, he must be unreliable, but the others don’t, therefore they’re more reliable (I dunno why, but when someone argues like this I’m lead to believe they’re self-projecting). And two, begging the question: because whether any of these people are reliable regarding the subtitle quality is precisely what is at stake.
Go study logic and critical reasoning.
@seangeL
They’re fine. The formatting is very old school, which may require getting used to, but even if there are some mistranslated lines it’s definitely not a hack job. I watched the LD rips several years ago and there was nothing that negatively affected the enjoyment. I’d worry more about the reanimated scenes.
I decided to download this (provided seeders allow it; if not, I’ll just get the original torrent instead and mux it myself). In the future I may take a look at the LD Archival & Preservation Project, which I’m sure will correct all existing issues.
I've skimmed through episode 1 and episode 55 and compared the two with the official subs. In the case of episode 1 there are a lot of mistranslations with Central Anime's subs, especially in the more complex sentences, but for the most part the subs are accurate to what's going on. Sometimes CA is more literal than the official subs, and sometimes it's the other way around. In episode 55 there are still minor errors here and there with CA but nothing as major as in episode 1; overall there's a big improvement.
In terms of accuracy the official subs are better because they don't make the translation mistakes that CA did. In terms of translation style (ignoring mistranslations) they're about equal; sometimes CA translates a line more nicely than the official subs, and sometimes the official subs do the better job.
I'm glad the comments in this torrent page aren't just useless thanks yous or people talking about grain or sharpness or other video-related talk I don't give a shit about.
I also like that you guys are talking about the subs themselves, since that's the one big deciding factor of whether I'll choose this release or another one.
Using yellow font in the subtitles is too retro and terrible to look at. For some reason there are spaces between the final letter of a word and the question marks and exclamation points. I don't like that, either.
Finally, I need to ask this: Am I blind or is there no info whatsoever in this page about the resolution of this release? The answer is that this is a 720p (960x720p) release. I'm answering this question because this is currently the biggest (in terms of data size) English-translated torrent for this anime on Nyaa. You're welcome.
By the way, how's the Mahoyo translation progressing @4digitmen?
If you're gonna criticise subs for being "inaccurate" you have to be specific - IE post the original line in japanese that you're referring to, and its translation, so we can tell if you're full of shit or not.
If you're just parroting what you hear on reddit, you might have rocks in your head because those guys wouldn't even know if their own balls were on fire.
