Thanks I'm updating my old TV rips/480/720 release with 1080p whenever I see an Anime thats in my Archive that hasn't been converted. It's a long process when you have close to 200k episodes of Anime But i won't ever change my archive over to 265. If something is added it's re-encoded back to avc 264, the encoder I use takes about 3-4 minutes a file. On an 85 inch screen I've never seen difference between the two codecs.
There isn't anything 265 can do that 264 can't. A simple frame rate change, is all it takes to render 265 useless. Besides 264 is compatible with just about every media player in the world. 265 is restricted to software type media players. It's a common sense to use what allows me to watch Anime when and wherever I want.
And funimation pushed 265 onto the Anime community to control offline sharing. It suited there desires perfectly, they can't stop sharing so they decided t at least contain it as best as possible. And they got a lot people to help them spread it around for free.
