Project notes:
Here’s a topic you rarely seen in anime: Motorcross, which is offroad dirt bike racing. Looks like a good one, and a rather interesting disc overall. In additon to the OVA itself, there are ads at the end for a few IRL motorcross videos, as well as a Japanese Castrol Oil commercial, and a handful of anime previews. This also has one of my favorite things in anime in general: Japanese people who don’t speak Englsh trying to speak in English. Even more interesting, this has a black character voiced by an actual native English speaker (probably), who, fortunately, does not attempt to speak Japanese.
The translation of the title seems to be a real issue. I had seen three different translations, so while working on this I asked a contact in Japan what he thought the correct translation was, and he proceeded to give me a FOURTH translation. So to hell with it, I went with the one that sounded best to me.
There is a problem with the beginning of the disc. The first 90 seconds of digital audio are completely missing, so I have made the analog audio track the default instead of the digital track. There are also some chroma disturbances in the first 90 seconds. Things seem to settle down after that.
This project was a long time coming: First, the disc was missing in my huge collection for the past several years. Until recently, my collection, while fully cataloged, was mostly unorganized. I’ve been working on while stuck at home, so all “missing” discs in my collection have now been lcoated. Once captured, this disc became the subject of three different bugs in ld-decode, and I had to rebuild the software once they could be worked around.
Unfiltered high bitrate DVD conversion included for archival purposes.
