You can read all about the Domeday Duplicator project at https://www.domesday86.com/?page_id=978. Project notes (v2): The audio in the first Domesday release of Tomoe’s Run wasn’t really great. I thought it was good, but when I really compared back-to-back.... eh. I kept trying to play with it, convinced if I just found the magic formula, I could fix it, but no. What can I say, I’m kinda stubborn and dopey. So I went back and did what I was resisting doing: I captured Tomoe’s Run a THIRD time, this time conventionally. I took the sound from the conventional cap and applied it to the Domesday video using MKVToolNix to apply audio timing offsets. Its probably off by a bit. The fact that voices and mouth movements are often misaligned in the original source does not help. But guess what? I’ve included the DVD conversion of the conventional cap as well, so you can fiddle with offsets to your heart’s content using that as a baseline. Sadly, I’ll probably have to release a v3 of this once the Domesday software gets its audio act together. Fortunately, Tomoe’s Run is kinda my thing. Renew! Project notes (original): We’re back at the End of the Circle (Robotech #18 for those reading along at home). Tomoe’s Run was one of the first things I captured with my old capture setup, and I did it wrong. I had the wrong IRE setting, and I released it at 29.97fps, because that seemed like a reasonable thing to do at the time. I always meant to go back and redo it, but there was always other stuff to do. When nyaa.se went down, I didn’t remake the torrent. V4 of the Domesday software crashed on both volumes of Tomoe’s Run, but v5, which just came out a few weeks ago, handles it just fine. Tomoe’s Run does not have a digital audio track, however, and while the software made a valiant effort to apply the PCM track to digital, it resulted in half of the audio being good, and half being maximum volume static. So what I did here was, I dumped the PCM audio into Audacity, I denoised it for background hiss, declicked it, and normalized the volume. I think the end result came out pretty well. If I had infinite space and bandwidth I would release this, and any other Domesday caps, losslessly, but it just isn’t a realistic option. For now I will continue to include DVD conversions of the decoded Domesday RF files, because I think that’s a pretty reasonable standard for video at this resolution.
