Explain to me, then, why this is still censored if it isn't because of changing standards of what's OK even in a channel like AT-X. Because then, AT-X would just have the same release everyone else had, like what happened with Yuragi-Sou. Then, they wouldn't give AT-X different footage and act like it's the "uncensored" release. I dont understand why people cant just have ratings and leave parents and people responsible for said ratings. It's almost like people dont want to take responsibility for themselves and thier children. And yes the west has been influencing anime and video games. Look up the garbage highlighted by the Audiovisual Media Services Regulations of 2014 .. the obscenities laws in the UK have bias against women and against most kink. "Protecting the children" as an excuse to tighten censorship laws is lying 99% of the time and just don't have a sane reason. People use child safety as an argument because most people are hesitant to argue against it for fear of being shamed, that lets them justify things that have no actual benefit for children. Don't believe me? People are blocking competent sex ed curriculums using arguments that are variations on "We must protect the children from being exposed to such obscene information." It's not the feminists and SWJs you need to be worried about. Sure there's some loud women screaming nonsense while claiming to be feminists, but the point you're missing is that those women have no real power. None. If you want to know who's really driving the censorship garbage, there's two main culprits and they're in plain sight. First is a group of (supposedly) Christian upper and middle class prudes who are old enough to be grandparents, desperately trying to fight immorality and censoring porn and violence is an easy target for them because so few want to defend it. This group has a disproportionate effect on governments because many legislators are in, are funded by, or are voted for by this demographic. These people believe that their status and reputation is based on who they associate with and how righteous they sound. Actual morals or betterment of society is irrelevant for most of them because that doesn't impress their peers. Second is a depressingly large population of parents matching a description that you all recognise immediately. These are parents who become apoplectic when their kid is exposed to basically anything fun or dangerous. Child plays a violent game? Sees nipples? Gets in a fight? Gets a hicky? Yeah, same result in every case, the parents are pissed. What makes them special is that they are convinced that they are blameless, it's someone else's fault that their kid did this, even though that same parent provides no supervision for the kid. The kind that buy their offspring M-rated games then demand age restrictions. They're a vocal chunk of the primary audience for both politicians and companies, and they have a lot of influence on other parents, social media, local news, policy creation and marketing. It's dangerous to argue against a parent over how their raise their kids, no matter how incompetent they are. And, honestly, the idea of the West trying to preach public morals to Japan is absolutely fucking hilarious. We're talking about a country where public perception, moral decency and honor actually matter more than in most of the world. Otaku culture is a poor representation of Japan to go moralising all over.
